90% of Children Try Drugs Out of Curiosity : Dr. Ayush
Committee Formed Against Drug Abuse in Sangti Ward
In response to the increasing incidents of drug abuse, the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti has intensified its campaign. As part of this initiative, a meeting was organized by the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti at the public health center in Shimla, extending the campaign to local neighborhoods. The meeting took place in the Sangti Ward of Sanjauli.
Dr. Ayush, Registrar of the Department of Psychiatry at IGMC Shimla, shared insights on the effects and symptoms of drug abuse. He highlighted that 90% of children and young people get trapped in drug use out of curiosity. Approximately 30% of children have experienced some form of drug use by the 10th grade. He pointed out that the lack of communication between children and parents exacerbates these issues. Children face pressure from peers, academics, and society, which can lead them toward drug use. Dr. Ayush advised parents to engage in conversations with their children, listen to their problems, and avoid putting unnecessary pressure on them.
The meeting was chaired by B.R. Chauhan, who urged landlords to thoroughly check the background of tenants before renting their properties. He assured full support to the committee’s campaign against drug abuse.
A drug prevention committee was formed during the meeting, with Seema Azad appointed as the convener and Kapil Sharma as the co-convener. Other committee members include Beliram Chauhan, Rajesh Verma, Brijesh Amraik, Rakesh Verma, Prithviraj Kayath, Dalip Khachi, Monika, Ajay, Tikam Thakur, Swarn Sharma, Bhupender Thakur, Munish Sharma, and Nishant Bharota.
The committee will monitor suspicious activities in the ward and engage in dialogues with parents and youth.
The meeting was also attended by Gyanand Sharma, state vice president of Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti, Satendra Chauhan, district vice president, treasurer Suresh Pundir, senior activist and former district president Sumitra Chandel, Hoshiar Singh, Ankit Dubey, Neelkamal, Naveen Sharma, Pawan Sharma, Ayushi Pundir, Sandeep Chauhan, and others.
