6 pc population inflicting with serious mental stress disorder
Health Department would make an action plan to comply with the suggestions of a panel of MLAs to combat mental health issues to provide health services to six percent population inflicted with serious psychosomatic disorders.
This was stated by the Health minister Dr Dhani Ram Shandil who is replying to a private member motion in the state assembly on Friday.
Six percent of the population of Himachal Pradesh is under mental stress given this, the state government has decided to strictly implement the mental health policy in the state. “Health Minister Colonel Dhaniram Shandil said.
In response to a private resolution brought by Congress MLA Bhavani Singh Pathania minister said that psychiatrists and counselors would be provided in all the 69 model health institutions of the state.
Agreeing with increasing serious cases of mental disorders due to modern lifestyle and drug addiction Health Minister said that states have to deal with the increasing problem of drug addiction in the state, with
joint efforts of the people and Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s government.
He said that the government has announced on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse to open Model Drug Abuse Centers in the state.
In this, Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to find 30 to 40 bighas of suitable land to open modern drug prevention centers in their respective districts.
The Health Minister said that there will be the provision of 200 to 300 beds in these model de-addiction centers.
He said that increasing competition among the youth and students is a major reason for the increase in mental diseases and the state government is working with the central government to deal with it.
The minister said that given the challenges to providing good mental health services, there is a dire need to strengthen the mental health infrastructure and manpower which the state would strengthen in collaboration with various departments and the central government.
He said that to stay away from mental diseases, the Health Department emphasizes treating the patients as well as making them aware through proper counseling centers.
Congress leader said that education, social welfare, and various other departments of state governments should work in tandem to improve mental health and extend the required services to treat serious mental disorders.
The health department has been working for some time to make a policy to promote health with the cooperation of all the concerned departments which includes experts from AYUSH, sports, education, and health.
Apart from the department and medical education department, experts from PGI Chandigarh and ICMR Chennai have shared their suggestions. Apart from reforms, all aspects including mental health and strengthening of infrastructure are being taken care of in this draft policy. Towards promoting health so that we can move towards overall health.
The police department protects helpless mentally ill patients and takes them to health institutions for treatment.
The Social Justice Department is running various schemes including Rehabilitation of mentally ill patients and sheltering them.
The Department of Medical Education is trying to increase the number of people trained in mental health.
The Department of Health Regulation is contributing to ensuring compliance with the mental.
Health Act 2017 Since mental health is a sensitive topic, all legal, social, and practical aspects are taken into consideration.
Earlier taking part in the discussion Bhawani Pathania said that suicidal tendencies are increasing among people due to stress and psychological ailments.
He said that people are falling into the trap of quakes who claim disease due to various superstitions and people do not go to psychiatrists to treat them. Mr Pathania said that alarming figures of various mental disorders including pyzophernia, double personality disorder, mental stress mental trauma, etc. are inflicting the large population of the country.
Mr Pathania said that according to the World Health Organised, there could be more than six crore people in the country, and 3.5 lakh people or six percent population of Himachal Pradesh require mental health services.
Mr Pathania said that many members of this house would require mental health services however many of us need to go to counseling and psychotherapy but people ignore its treatment.
Dr Janak Raj said that around 2,000 people committed suicide in Himachal Pradesh last year which shows that people did not get treatment to stop them from taking extreme steps as most people with suicidal tendencies must need to psychtrist and life could be said.
He said that most people are not able to get out of mental trauma and without having social support and proper counseling they either fall into traps of drug abuse or get isolated from the mainstream of society. He said that mainly the young are falling into the traps of chitta and the increasing drug menace mounting pressure on the parents and society to bring the youth from distress and addiction.
Vinod Sultanpuri said that parents are having high expectations from their kids and if they don’t perform well in the cut-throat competition they are taking extreme steps. He said that suicidal tendencies are increasing among educated people and well-off sections and most of them require good mental health services.
Vipin Singh Parmar said that mental health should also be taken care of as mental health services should be followed before taking care of young minds by promoting a good atmosphere in society and at home first. He said that Yoga quality education and proper parenting may be the best remedy before heavy mental health disorders. Hans Raj of BJP said that members of the assembly also require counseling and distress therapy as all work 24 x 7 leading to mental pressure and stress. He said that good moral education and a family system could play a great role in reducing the number of cases of mental disorders.
