3rd Wave of Covid impact Himachal hospitality industry

With 3rd wave and sudden spike in Covid-19 cases in Himachal Pradesh impacted tourism and hospitality industry as footfall of Tourist witnessed decline with cancellation of booking in many hotels.
Mr. Mohinder Seth, President of Himachal Pradesh Hotel and Bar-Resurant Associationsaid Corona 3rd wave increase worries of Shimla  hoteliers. Mr Seth told us that Tourism Industry is going to hit due to covid restrictions in Himachal and other North West Himalayan state which contributes maximum occupancy during winter.
The cancellation of bookings has started there is a steep fall in occupancy of hotels.The hotel industry has already continuesly lost two major tourist seasons and  the hoteliers are going to loose this winter tourist season .

This year the tourism stake holders were expecting good winter season because of timely snow fall . 
In the Christmas and New year season, Administeration  diverted the traffic from Tutikandi crossing towards the Shimla byepass due to which the tourists as well as locals  faced a lot of inconvenience .
 The occupancy of hotels situated beyond Tutikandi byepass upto 103  tunnel ,Chaura maidan  area and hotels located across victory tunnel upto lakkar bazzar was badly  affected because large number of tourists come without prior bookings and they are walk in  tourists and   serch accomodatin only on arrival.
Now when there was a snowfall the road leading towards Lakkar bazzar was baracated despite of the fact the road was clear upto snowview near Tarahall school. 
This has directly affected the occupancy of around 60 hotels located across the victory tunnel. 
There was hardly any occupancy in this area due to which there was a anguish in the hoteliers of this area. 
Hotel industry is already facing financial hardships from last two years due to Crona pandemic .The hoteliers we’re hopeful to get some financial relief during this winter season but there hopes washed away.
It has become difficult for hoteliers to meet the basic  expences such as water, electricity bills and salary of the staff etc.
We met the Deputy commissioner apprised him about the losses suffered by the hoteliers across the victory tunnel and harrasment faced by tourists as well locals due to diversion of traffic towards shimla bye pass.
 We suggested that to find permanent solution the proper traffic plan may be formulated. Our association is planning to organise one interactive session with district admnistration and police under the chairmanship of worthy Deputy Commissioner. 
The objective of this intraction meet will be to apprise the admnistration about the problems related to tourism industry faced at ground level  by the stakeholders. 
During this intraction the problems will be discussed at lenth and the suggestions will be forwarded by the association to  bring permanent solution for regulation of traffic of shimla city.
The  association would also  request the  administation to formulate the  permanent solution to avoide inconvenience to Tourists and locals as well in future, he added.
