Fourteen (14) mountaineers trapped in Lahaul Spiti rescued
Fourteen (14) mountaineers trapped in the Khanmigar glacier of Lahaul-Spiti have been rescued.
All the fourteen climbers were found on the way by the 32-member rescue team. The rescue team had left from Kah village in Pin Valley at 3.30 am on Tuesday.
But, all the 14 climbers coming back on the way have found them in Dhar Chango itself.
The climbers were descending, leaving the bodies of both the dead companions on the Khimigar glacier itself.
Now by late evening, 14 climbers will reach Kah Base Camp. At the same time, the work of bringing both the dead bodies will start in the morning. The rescue team will stop at Dhar Chango today.
Deputy Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said that SDM Mohan Dutt Sharma has given related guidelines to the rescue team in the morning.
At the same time, two police personnel Head Constable Kartar Singh and Constable Ashwani Kumar have been posted at the base camp in Kah village.
The rescue team is equipped with a GPS system. Along with this, all the food and drink items are available with the rescue team.
Rescue team has found 14 mountaineers. Now coming towards the base camp divided into two groups. They will then be brought to Kaza CHC.
The rescue team consists of 16 personnel from ITBP and 6 members of Dogra Scouts.
There is also a doctor in the rescue team.
Apart from this, there are 10 porters i.e. those who carry the burden. Mountaineering Foundation West Bengal’s mountaineering team had left from Batal to Kaza via Khimigar Glacier on 15 September.
But due to snowfall, the team was unable to travel further. Two members died on the Khanmigar Glacier itself. All the other members decided to stay there and did not complete the further track.
After this a climber and a Sherpa informed the Kaza SDM about the death of two members of the team and the other members being trapped.
As soon as the information was received, the administration sent the rescue team from Kaza to Kah. Other crew members are safe on the Khanmigar Glacier.
They have enough food and shelter. DSP Rohit Mrigpuri was specially present along with SDM Mohan Dutt Sharma.
