10th International Yoga Day Celebrated at Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla
Today, on 21st June 2024, the 10th International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. At the initiative of the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, the theme for this year’s Yoga Day, as decided by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, was ‘Yoga for Self and Society.’ The objective of this theme is to promote individual and social health through yoga.
On this occasion, apart from the Fellows, and staff of the institute, students and faculty of various departments of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, also participated. Additionally, participants from various parts of the country, who are currently attending an international symposium at the Institute titled as “Environmental Humanities and the Global South: Perspectives for Ecological Justice”, also took part in the events organized to mark Yoga Day. The program proved to be both informative and inspiring for all attendees.
Approximately 120 participants took part in this International Yoga Day program. Yoga instructors Mr. Ram Pal from Sashastra Seema Bal, Shimla, who is trained at Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Delhi, and Mr. Deepak Sharma guided the participants through various yoga postures and highlighted the importance and benefits of yoga in daily life. They explained how regular yoga practice strengthens not only physical but also mental and spiritual health.
The program commenced with a collective yoga practice by all participants. After the yoga session, Mr. Ram Pal and Mr. Deepak Sharma provided detailed information about different yoga postures and their benefits. They also discussed how incorporating yoga into daily life can reduce stress and enhance energy levels.
Post the yoga practice, nutritious refreshments were arranged for all participants. Mr. Akhilesh Pathak, Sales & Public Relations Officer of the institute, thanked everyone for the successful organization of the program and encouraged all to practice yoga regularly.
This event was highly beneficial and inspiring for everyone. Such programs increase awareness about yoga and promote a healthy lifestyle in society.
