109 candidates filed nominations for the Shimla Municipal poll

As many as 109 candidates filed their papers for Shimla Municipal Corporation Election as it was the last day of filling nominations on Tuesday, state election commissioner Anil Khachi said.

 A total of 109 candidates from various political parties and independent candidates filled out their Papers for the municipal elections.

 Giving this information, ARO (Municipal Corporation)/ADM Rahul Chauhan said that these nominations would be scrutinized tomorrow April 19, and could be withdrawn on April 21. On this day after 1500 hrs, the final list of contesting candidates will be released along with election symbols.

Among those filled papers belonged two four Political parties including  21 from Aam Aadmi Party, 35 nominations from Bharatiya Janata Party, and 34 nominations from Congress. The Election Commission has received 4 nominations from the Communist Party of India-Marxist and 15 nominations from other candidates. No nominations were received on April 13, the first day of nominations. On the other hand, 22 nominations have been received on April 17 and 87 on April 18.

Polling for Shimla MC would be held on May 2 and the counting of votes and results would be declared on May 4. 

Currently, there is no elected local self Government in Shimla MC as Election scheduled for June 2022 could not be held after challenging of delimitation process in the Himachal Pradesh High Court some former counselors.

Recently Congress government decided to withdraw the delimitation process as the number of wards increased previously by the BJP government reduced from 41 to 34 again.
