HP State Legal Services Authority organized cleanliness drive

Under the able and innovative guidance of Hon’ble Shri Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Judge, High Court of Himachal Pradesh and Executive Chairperson, HP State Legal Services Authority, an Awareness-cum-Sensitization Drive was launched on 18 th May 2023 for Sanitary Workers and Functionaries of Municipalities, Local Bodies, Nagar Parishads including Functionaries of Pollution Control Board, Forest Department, NGOs, SHGs, and other Stakeholders with an objective of spreading legal awareness about clean and healthy environment and to protect and improve the same as a part of fundamental duty.


This drive was run in 61 Urban Civic Bodies by associating more than 3150 Sanitary Workers and more than 1500 Functionaries of these Civic Bodies, Stakeholders, and other Institutions including NGOs, etc.

This drive has received tremendous support and cooperation from all involved in the campaign. During this drive, till now approximately 109 tons of garbage/litter/trash was removed and disposed from more than 500 identified hotspots. Even at a hotspot identified at Shoghi on the roadside, the JCB machine was employed to lift/remove tons of garbage dumped there. Garbage was removed from the Bank of Rivers, Khads, Nallahs, Forest Areas, Chocked Culvers, Streets, Parks, tourist places, etc. In some places, NGOs, Self Help Groups, and Woman Volunteers, especially in Kinnaur and Chamba Districts came forward to join this drive.

Another drive namely, the Community Clean-up Drive will start from 1 st of June, 2013 in the State under the guidance of Hon’ble Shri Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Judge, High Court of HP and Executive Chairperson, HP State Legal Services Authority by involving Gram Panchayats, Mahila Mandals, Yuvak Mandals, Anganwari Workers, Self Help Groups, NGOs, Social Organizations, and other
volunteers.

Awareness for this drive will be spread through various modes including virtual means. Para Legal Volunteers deployed in Village Legal Care and Support Centers will mobilize various stakeholders and the public to participate in this drive on the occasion of World Environment Day i.e. 5th June 2023.

This Community Clean-up Drive may broadly focus on:

  1. Cleaning up of Panchayat Ghars, Village Community Centers. Mahila Mandals and Yuvak Mandal Bhawans, Anganwaris, Senior Citizen Centers etc.
  2. Junk and Trash pickup from the village streets, temples, playgrounds, vacant spots, etc.
  3. Cleaning up water resources such as Wells, Ponds, Water Bodies, Water Tanks, etc.

The target is to cover all the Panchayats in the State.
