160 mn dollar water supply & sewerage program on the anvil with World Bank for Himachal

State Government is currently in final negotiation with World bank to provide assistance of 160 million US dollar Himachal Pradesh Water Supply and Sewerage Service Delivery Program .
State Principal Secretary Urban Development Mr Rajneesh said that negotiation washed today for seeking financial assistance of US dollar -160 million ( Rs 1168 Cr) from World Bank with Department of Economic Affairs (DEA)  for HPWS & SdP  in which official of Ministry of Finance also remained present. 
He said that this is the final negotiation and the World Bank and DEA . State Council of Ministers on Aug 24 , 2021 has approved the Negotiation Package for the program.
The finical assistance to be used for funding Shimla Water Supply & Sewerage Services Delivery Program for improvement of WSS services in Greater Shimla Area for Financial assistance from World Bank with total financial outlay of $ 250 Mn (INR 1825 Cr). 
Out of  Us dollar 250 Mn (Rs 1825 Cr); World Bank would be  provide in form of Financial assistance to the tune of 160 Mn ( Rs  1168 Cr) and rest amount of  90 Mn ( Rs 657 Cr)to be borne by the state it self . 
The principal motive of  project is to provide domestic and commercial 24×7 water supply in MC Shimla and strengthen the sewerage services including components of augmentation of Shimla Water Supply from River Satluj with additional 67 MLD to meet the water demand up to 2050.  The project also seeks to replace the distribution pipe network across MC Shimla to upgrade it to 24×7 water supply system
Bulk water Supply to Shimla Peri-Urban areas to meet the water demand of Special Area Development Authority/ies (SADA) Kufri, Shoghi, Ghanahatti and additional planning areas up to 2050. 
To improve Sewerage services within Shimla Municipal Corporation Area.
The project envisages lifting water from Satluj near village Shakrodi, involving lifting to a height of 1.6 km and pipe laying of 22 km to augment 67 MLD water at Sanjauli.
. Additionally, the sewerage network in areas of Mehli-Panthaghati, Tutu and Mashobra will be provided. The project will be completed by 2026. 
The Department of UD has been able to secure this funding from the WB and MoF despite fiscal constraints posed due to Covid 19. The negotiated Program Appraisal Document will now be  posed to the Board of Bank for the  final approval, which is expected within a month. 
This will be a major boost in augmenting Water Supply &Sewerage network in Shimla. The effective date of fund disbursement will be Jan 1, 2022 and funding will be for tenure of five years.
